Seahawks Information

Welcome to the 2020 flag football season at Aim High!

This is a quick reference page for the 6th grade Seattle Seahawks page, coached by Pete Scipione, Josh Martin, and Bob Barker. Once again, Gayle Hanlon will serve as the team manager. Our practices are every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at Franklin Middle School (3300 Lees Corner Rd, Chantilly, VA 20151), and we will have games on Saturdays through late October.

All regular season games are played at EC Lawrence field (5000 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly, VA 20151) or Greenbriar Park (4515 Stringfellow Rd, Chantilly, VA 20151). Aim High is going to send instructions on entering EC Lawrence with the ongoing construction. This year at EC Lawrence we are playing on the "big field", located at the Southern end of the park.

Here are three quick links described in further detail below:

  • TeamSnap App: Please use this for the official calendar and to update your son's availability.
  • COVID Screening Form: Parents must complete this form prior to every practice and game.
  • Current Playbook: Help the boys learn the plays - all positions. Good break activity during school!

Key Things to Remember

This season will require additional organization and precaution because of the pandemic. The coaches, parents, and players will have added responsibility.

For Parents

Availability
Team Connect

Please keep your son's availability up-to-date in our team app: TeamSnap. The coaches depend on that to structure practices and setup game lineups.

COVID Form

Aim High requires parents submit a screening form for COVID . Our team has an an online form you must complete before every practice and game.

For Players

Practice and Game Checklist

Players must bring the following to every practice and game:

The Playbook

We will teach the boys plays throughout the season, adding and adjusting based on our games and practices.

The team should know the plays by reviewing them at home and we will go over them extensively during practice. During our games, each player will wear an armband to help remind them of the play, but they will be extremely small to fit in the armbands. Reviewing the plays on this site will help make it easier on gamedays.

The playbook has 3 pages, with 8 plays per page. We use colored wristbands to help the boys understand their role in each play. The wristband corresponds to the color in the playbook. Here is a specific example to help the boys understand:

Calling Plays

The boys wristbands correspond to the position and route the run in a given play. In this case, the number is 21-ODD.

The first number, 2 is the page in the armband the play is in (1, 2, or 3).

The second number, 1 is the column on the page that the play is on - in this case column 1 (there are 4 columns per page).

The last part is a bit trickier. ODD means that we can call this play ending in any odd number. 211, 213, 215, 217, and 219 are all the same play. This makes it harder for the other team to guess what we will run.

The image below shows the entire second page of the armband:

Play Notations

Plays may have a few special notations the boys should understand:

Targeted Receivers: Pink stars on the play indicate the primary targets (where the quarterback should look to throw).
Fake Handoffs: Dashed lines indicate that the handoff was a fake. The red wristband player receives a fake handoff in the play on the left.
Slot Receiver: If a player has a small rectangle around them, they line up one big step back from the line. We are only allowed 4 players on the line of scrimmage. The black wristband player lines up a step back in the play to the left.
Motion: Some plays have a receiver in motion. The triangle shows where the player should start, and the circle shows where they end up. The black wristband player is in motion in the play on the left.
Quarterback Taking Snap: We will have two quarterbacks on the field - purple and red wristbands. The red shading in the background of some of the plays shows that the red wristband player takes the snap and plays quarterback. In the example to the left, the left play has the purple wristband player taking the snap. In the play on the right (shaded red), the red wristband player takes the snap.
